Job Description                                                
Title: Youth Aquatics Fitness Coach Supervisor                                                        
Classification: M4
Pay Range: $19.10-20.26/hour     

Principal Objective
Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Program Lead and the Aquatics Manager/Director, the YAF Supervisor provides a leadership presence for all Youth Swim Coaches working during their shift, and is the point person for resolving daily YAF specific issues. They are responsible for providing swim coaching expertise, wisdom, and best practices, ensuring all coaches, swimmers, and parents feel informed and comfortable in and around water and at the Community Center, WBSL meets, and Sequoia High School. They will oversee/create all swim team entries and be responsible for preparing the pool deck, swimmers, and coaches for swim meets.
Principal Roles and Responsibilities 
  • Instructor: Help Help swimmers (ages 5-18) learn water safety and proper swimming technique. Learn every swimmer’s name and get to know them; be reliable, trustworthy, caring, and accepting; prioritize swimmer’s experience over personal issues; be fun and playful; give positive feedback often. Be specific and clear when giving evaluations to students and families. Know and implement the coaches handbook.
  • Leader: lead the Center’s Community by exemplifying character and safety; coach with confidence, consistency and love; communicate clearly and with confidence to swimmers and families; listen for and support goals and needs of swimmers and families; learn, honor and enforce facility rules at all times; write incident reports when necessary. Be willing to take charge and action when assistance is needed. Assist the Program Lead and coaches in writing sets, running, meets, and providing feedback to swimmers as necessary. Collaborates with the Aquatics Program lead to conduct midsummer reviews and exit interviews. 
  • Teammate: be available to work as scheduled for the entire season (provide consistency for the swimmers); if a sub is needed, be 100% responsible for finding the sub or be at work as scheduled; be willing and available to sub for others; encourage teammates; address inner-team issues directly, immediately and respectfully; work in collaboration with the Adult Swim Workout Team, The Youth Aquatics Fitness Team, Center Summer Camp, Swim School, Facilities Team, and other Center leaders to provide detailed assistance for members and to continue to build an excellent aquatics facility and program.
  • Student: Before starting job: complete necessary training for payroll, water safety/instruction and Lifeguard Certification; throughout summer: attend all meetings and trainings; strive to learn and grow as a coach and as an individual.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Certifications: Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent, PCC swim school certification.
  • Leadership: ability to lead by example, help teammates learn, and be a convincing authority on the topics of water safety, swim technique, proper instruction techniques, and instilling the joy of swimming.
  • Experience: 16 years or older; strong swimming and water survival skills; Experience working with children preferred; swim instruction or coaching experience (1 year Center experience preferred).
  • Schedule: Commit to working 8 out of the 10 weeks of summer and attend all required training meetings throughout the summer.
Physical Requirements: This job requires a person to be in the water and in the sun for the majority of the time spent working. Personal protective equipment for sun exposure is mandatory (sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc). Swim coaches must be able to hold children (ages 3-12) in the water, stand in the water, be able to swim 300 yards continuously without stopping (breaststroke or freestyle), and tread water for 2 minutes without the use of arms. Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds often.
 
Compensation: $19.10 - $20.26 per hour
