On-Deck Supervisor

PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE
The On Deck Supervisor provides leadership for all swim instructors and lifeguards and serves as the primary point of contact for resolving on-deck issues. This role is responsible for providing swim instruction,  assisting with lifeguard responsibilities and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The On Deck Supervisor works closely with the Aquatics Coordinator, Aquatics Program Manager, and other aquatics staff, including swim instructors and lifeguards. This position also interacts with members, guests, and other PCC Community Center staff to provide exceptional service and maintain a high standard of safety and instruction.

WORKWEEK
  • Commit to working 7 out of the 9 weeks of summer and attend all required training meetings, including weekly in-service training.
  • Work two summer holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day) and one of the following: June 21st or July 26th.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings on June 8th, June 30th, and August 3rd.
  • Hours and shifts vary, Weekly hours range: 8-24 hours

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise swim instructors and lifeguards, ensuring staff needs are met and excellent service is provided to members.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies, following PCC’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Be available for all scheduled shifts and take responsibility for finding a substitute if unable to work. 
  • Be willing to sub for others when needed.
  • Help evaluate and develop swim instructors and lifeguards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for resolving on-deck issues, schedule conflicts, member complaints, and facility needs—escalating issues to the Aquatics Coordinator or Aquatics Program Manager when necessary.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.
  • Strong swimming skills and experience in swim coaching, swim instruction, and working with children required.
  • One year of experience working at Peninsula Community Center preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be in the water and sun for extended periods.
  • Must be able to hold children (ages 3-12) in the water, stand in the water, swim 300 yards continuously (breaststroke or freestyle), and tread water for two minutes without using arms.
  • Lifeguards must be able to perform all American Red Cross Lifeguard rescue skills, including diving up to 12 feet, treading water for extended periods, CPR, rescue breathing, in-water spinal backboarding, and using an AED.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds frequently.
  • DOJ background clearance required
  • Must adhere to and model PCC’s Safe Church policies

Compensación: $21.84 - $23.87 per hour
