Center Lifeguard Supervisor

Pay Range: $19.10-20.26/hour                                                    
Principal Objective
Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Program Lead and the Aquatics Manage/Director, the Community Center Lifeguard Supervisor provides a leadership presence for all Lifeguards on duty and is the point person for resolving daily lifeguard-specific issues. They are responsible for providing guarding expertise, ensuring safety both in the water and on the pool deck of ALL PCC members and guests; as well as exceptional facility maintenance and caring service.

Principal Roles and Responsibilities 
Supervisor/Encourager: throughout their shift: supervise, meet the lifeguard team needs, encourage excellent service to members; ensure there is always a supervisor or coordinator available to help the team when you are unavailable; plan and implement evaluation and development process for Lifeguard Team. Provide a physical leadership presence, help resolve any pool or deck issues, member complaints, or facility needs.  
Trainer: work with the Aquatics Program Lead and Aquatics Manager to plan team meetings, communications, and trainings to support all of the programs and services for our internal PCC team and our members. They will be responsible for creating the monthly lifeguard schedules and approving shift trade requests. 
Lifeguard Deck Leader: lead by exemplifying character and safety; guard with confidence, consistency, and care; learn, honor and enforce facility rules whether on duty or off duty (pool, weight room, and gym); use whistle and authoritative, firm, and professional/respectful voice. Create monthly schedules for the team and handle shift trade requests. Responsible for assisting the Aquatics Program Lead and Aquatics Manager, and fellow supervisors in the planning and implementation of in-service training. Works closely with other supervisors and the Aquatics Program Lead to ensure clear communication and follow through. Collaborates with the Aquatics Program lead to conduct midsummer reviews and exit interviews.  
Teammate: be available to work as scheduled; if a sub is needed, be 100% responsible for finding another supervisor to replace you or be at work as scheduled; be willing and available to sub for others; be on time for shift and when returning from breaks; address inner-team issues directly, immediately, and respectfully; work in partnership with the Adult Swim Workout Team, The Youth Aquatics Fitness Team, Center Summer Camp, Swim School, Facilities Team, and other Center leaders to provide detailed assistance for members and to continue to build an excellent aquatics facility and program.
Safety Provider: be a “preventive” guard by thinking ahead of what might cause an incident and preventing it from occurring; be in required uniform and easily identifiable as a Lifeguard; keep the deck clean, neat, and safe at all times; quickly assists member care issues on the pool deck when not scanning the pool; thoroughly and immediately complete incident reports when necessary. 
Student: Before starting job: complete necessary training for payroll, Red Cross Lifeguarding, be current on any changes made to the location of equipment, including first aid kit, AED, buoys, backboard, pool maintenance supplies, hose, island, etc. Warn Aquatics Program Lead and Aquatics Manager if supplies become low or are depleted; throughout summer: attend all meetings and trainings; strive to learn and grow as a lifeguard and as an individual.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Organizational skills: ability to be on time, alert, well rested, focused, remember details, dress in proper attire; take initiative, follow through with people, and make sure things get done.
  • Certifications: certified Red Cross Lifeguard (or equivalent)
  • Experience: 16 years or older; strong swimming and/or water survival skills; lifeguard experience preferred, 1 year center aquatics experience preferred.
  • Schedule: Commit to working 8 out of the 10 weeks of summer and attend all training meetings throughout the summer.
Physical Requirements: This job requires a person to be in the water often and in the sun for the majority of the time spent working. Personal protective equipment for sun exposure is mandatory (sunscreen, shoes, hats, sunglasses, etc). Lifeguards must be able to complete all rescue skills in the American Red Cross Lifeguard course at any point in time while working. This includes but is not limited to diving up to 12 ft under water, treading water for long periods of time, performing CPR, rescue breaths, in water spinal backboarding, and the use of an AED. Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds often.
Compensation: $19.10 - $20.26 per hour
